Travis debated on whether to wear his blue snow jacket or his red one. After spending way too long thinking about it, he slipped on the blue jacket. Who am I trying to impress? He shook his head. He knew exactly who. Sarah Stewart. Sheâd gotten to him lately. He wasnât sure if it was her kindness, her cuteness, or her kiss. All three seemed to do a number on him, but the kiss was definitely taking the lead. He hadnât been able to stop thinking about it. He was spending another night out in Forest Grove with her. In her mission to make him cheerful and in the Christmas spirit, heâd agreed to go walking downtown with her to look at Christmas lights, then drive around different neighborhoods to see the lights. He agreed on the condition they talk more about her business plans. Since he planned to put his time working with Sarah on his resume, he wanted to make sure he did some real work when they were together.
Travis said goodbye to his parents, who seemed a little too smug that he was spending even more time with Sarah. He worried his mother was going to start looking at wedding venues.
Travis waited for her outside The Enchanted Story, although he was about fifteen minutes early. When Sarah came out of the store, she carried a huge brown box in front of her face. All he could see was the gray pom-pom on top of her beanie.
âSarah?â
She peeked around the box. âYes?â
He reached for the box. âLet me carry that.â His hand slipped under the box and took it from her. âWhat have you got in here? A boulder?â He heaved the box upon his hip to get a better grip.
She grinned at him. He couldnât help but think about how her lips felt pressed against his earlier. She was saying something. Focus, man. âWait. What?â
âAre you listening to me?â Her cheeks were pink from the cold. âI said itâs all the books for our first batch of subscription boxes. Iâm going to work on them tonight at home.â
Travis furrowed his brow. âWhy not just do it at the store?â
Sarah shrugged. âI guess I want to be able to put some personal touches on it. Maybe wrap the books in some cute paper or write a kind note. Iâm just scared at the store Iâd be so busy doing other things I couldnât give it my full attention.â
She led him to her white Toyota 4-Runner and unlocked the door so that he could slide the box into the back seat. He wiped his hands off on his jeans and noticed for the first time that they were wearing almost identical blue ski jackets. He pointed at her jacket. âWeâre twinning.â
Sarah looked down. âWell, I guess we are.â She giggled. âYou have good taste.â
He grinned. âI was just about to say the same thing about you.â He caught himself looking too long into her dark blue eyes. âSo, Mrs.
